Edward Stumpp, DMA

Edward began to study composition at Boise State University. During this period, he created a unique aesthetic, focusing on texture and sculptural approaches to composition.
After graduating from Boise State University, Edward was accepted into the Master’s program at Mills College. Edward expanded his compositional vocabulary and the interactions present between Acoustic Instruments and the Computer. Focusing primarily on applications of signal processing and guided improvisation, his work was presented at Mills College and at Stanford University during this time. In May 2012 he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Electronic Music Composition and Recording Media.
In January of 2015, Edward returned to Idaho and was appointed adjunct professor of Music Technology and Computer Music at Boise State University. In August 2017, Edward was accepted into the composition program at Michigan State University. At MSU, Edward started to incorporate audio-visual music/scores, techniques of machine listening, and improvisation. He earned a Doctorate of the Musical Arts in 2020.
Currently, Edward is teaching at multiple institutions in Michigan. This includes: Alma College, Wayne State University, and Michigan State University. His classes range from introductory courses in electronic music & audio recording, electronic music synthesis, improvisational/electronic music ensembles, and advanced computer music techniques utilizing the computer program Max.
